Baylor University Medical Center - Dallas (“BUMC”) is committed to protecting the security and confidentiality of our patients’ information. Regrettably, this notice concerns an incident that occurred involving some of that information at a business associate of BUMC, Advent Health Partners (“Advent”). Advent provides claims management services to BUMC and was sent information by your health provider to assist with the medical billing process.

Please be aware that this incident did not affect all patients of BUMC. Those patients who were identified as being affected should have received a letter in the mail describing the incident, directly from Advent.

Masks Required

In line with CDC guidance and the Texas governor’s orders, everyone is still required to wear a mask in our healthcare facilities.

We will provide approved masks to visitors who need one. Anyone with symptoms or a temperature of 100˚F or higher will be directed not to enter the hospital unless they need medical care.

Visitor Lounges

There are designated lounges for visitors on patient floors. Specific areas have been designated for guests in other areas. If you are in a large group, we ask for your consideration of other patients’ families when seating is limited. Wireless laptops can be used in most areas by connecting to our visitor wireless network. Charging stations and outlets are also available in select lounge areas.

The use of wireless communication devices, such as cell phones, notebooks and laptops, can interfere with medical equipment and is restricted in all patient care areas. Please restrict your use of these devices to visitor lounges and non-patient care areas.

Security and Lost and Found

Baylor Police provide security escorts on the Dallas campus 24 hours a day. You may request assistance by calling 214.820.4444.

Between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., buildings are closed to the general public. The emergency and maternity entrances are always open.

You can request copies of your medical records by completing an Authorization for Release of Information form and returning to the facility at which you received care.

Baylor University Medical Center has three on-site pharmacies conveniently located on campus.

Pre-Admission Testing

Convenient, on-site testing expedites your day of surgery admission

You can expedite your hospital admission by completing registration and testing requirements (lab/blood work, X-ray, EKG, etc.) before your arrival by completing the following:

  • Pre-registration paperwork, including paying out-of-pocket expenses
  • Pre-admission testing and evaluation prior to surgery

For those who do so, you may proceed to the concierge desk where they will verify your identity and escort you to the pre-operative area.

A nurse from the pre-admission testing office will call you before surgery to review your medical history. To help make things run more smoothly on your day of surgery, you should anticipate the call two to seven days before surgery.

During the pre-admission testing call, a registered nurse will review:

  • Your medical and surgical history
  • Your current prescription medications and over-the-counter supplements
  • Required testing prior to surgery

To prepare for the call, please have the following available:

  • Your driver’s license (or picture ID) and insurance card(s)
  • A list of all your medications, with dosage and frequency:
    • Prescription medications
    • Herbal supplements
    • Vitamins
    • Over-the-counter medicines
  • Copy of your advance directives (i.e., a living will or medical power of attorney)

Bone Marrow Transplant

The Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program at Baylor Scott & White Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center – Dallas, on the campus of Baylor University Medical Center, has grown to be one of the largest and most comprehensive blood and marrow transplant programs in the state of Texas and in the nation. Over the program’s 35-year history, close to 6,000 transplants have been performed. The BMT program at Baylor Dallas performed North Texas’ first adult marrow transplantation in 1983 and the first matched unrelated donor transplantation in 1988. The six BMT specialists on the medical staff of Baylor Dallas, have more than 130 years combined experience in the field and are dedicated exclusively to the treatment of cancer and blood disorders.

Breast Imaging

All four of Baylor University Medical Center Breast Imaging Centers have earned the designation of Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology, Commission on Quality and Safety and the Commission on Breast Imaging.

  • We perform more than 60,000 breast imaging procedures annually
  • We detected more than 2,500 breast cancers in the last five years
  • Our imaging procedures are reviewed and interpreted by board-certified radiologists on the medical staff at Baylor Dallas who specialize in breast imaging
  • We collaborate with Baylor Scott & White Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center – Dallas to provide education and diagnosis about breast cancer and many other breast health issues
  • We offer advanced well woman​ and diagnostic procedures, including fully digital mammography units and 3-D mammography

Cancer Care

All forms of cancer are treated at the Baylor Scott & White Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center – Dallas. Within the cancer research and treatment centers, multidisciplinary clinical teams focus on developing optimal and personalized treatment plans for high-risk patients and the most complex cases within cancers such as:

  • Pancreas
  • Neuroendocrine system
  • Lung, colon and rectal system
  • Skin
  • Hematologic malignancies such as leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma
  • Breast and gynecologic area
  • Genitourinary area such as bladder, kidney and prostate

These Research and Treatment Centers are designed to apply advanced medicine, clinical research, and targeted therapies to specific cancer types, and perform high volumes of surgeries and treatments in their subspecialties, making them proficient in specific areas of cancer treatment and destination centers of excellence. In addition, they collaborate through tumor board conferences and research underway at the Swim Across America Innovative Clinical Trials Center. With Baylor Scott & White Research Institute, Texas Oncology and U.S. Oncology, the cancer center offers patients access to more than 150 national clinical trials and innovative cancer treatments.

Baylor Scott & White Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center – Dallas offers several programs through the Virginia R. Cvetko Patient Resource Center to help you and your loved ones understand and manage the physical, emotional and spiritual challenges of cancer. These services include:

Critical and Intensive Care

Baylor University Medical Center offers critical and intensive care to treat a wide variety of life-threatening injuries, illnesses and heart issues, including a:

Digestive Diseases

Baylor Dallas’ digestive care program offers advanced and comprehensive inpatient and outpatient treatment for digestive and liver disorders by providing a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. The center’s 18,000 square-foot gastrointestinal (GI) physiology laboratory provides physicians with the ability to perform esophageal motility studies, pH monitoring, manometry testing and double balloon endoscopy, in addition to typical endoscopic procedures in a centrally located area. The GI analytical lab also offers digestive disease clinical research opportunities for physicians and patients.

Ear, Nose and Throat

U.S. News & World Report ranked Baylor University Medical Center among the top 50 hospitals nationwide in treating Ear, Nose & Throat disease. Otolaryngologists, also called ear, nose and throat or ENT specialists, treat diseases and injuries affecting the ear, nose and throat, as well as the head and neck. The Voice Center at Baylor Dallas provides diagnosis and surgical or rehabilitative services to treat a variety of voice disorders, including specialized high-resolution imaging of the larynx (or voice box) and laryngeal videostroboscopy to analyze the biomechanics of the vocal fold (or vocal cord) vibration.

Emergency Care

Baylor University Medical Center is a comprehensive Level I trauma center, one of only three adult trauma centers in Dallas, covering 21 counties (18,000 square miles) and five million residents. The trauma services division has dedicated trauma and stroke teams, providing 24-hour coverage of emergency services. The Riggs Emergency Department, with more than 75,000 square feet and 85 patient treatment rooms, has dedicated areas specifically for trauma care, physician referral and minor emergency care.


Endocrinologists on the medical staff at Baylor Scott & White Health study and treat problems with the glands. Baylor Scott & White is com​mitted to ongoing research, innovative treatment and the development of management programs to help treat diabetes.

Epilepsy and Seizures

The Baylor Dallas Epilepsy Program is designated as a Level III Epilepsy Center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers because of its advanced capabilities in diagnosing and treating the most complex forms of epilepsy. The program’s experienced, multidisciplinary team includes a highly trained neurologist on the medical staff who is board certified in epilepsy, as well as board-certified neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists and nuclear medicine specialists. The Epilepsy Program’s six-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit offers innovative diagnostic and treatment technologies:

  • High-resolution MRI, MR spectroscopy, functional MRI and PET scanning
  • Non-invasive brain mapping to identify the brain area where seizures are originating
  • Continuous video electroencephalography (EEG)
  • ictal SPECT and intracranial electrode monitoring
  • Wada testing

Esophageal Diseases

The Center for Esophageal Diseases at Baylor University Medical Center features gastroenterologists, interventional endoscopists, laryngologists, esophageal surgeons and thoracic surgeons on the Baylor Dallas medical staff who have focused expertise in diagnosing and treating disorders of the esophagus.

Eye Care

There are many disorders of the eye that require clinical care by a physician or other healthcare professional. Our eye care team includes ophthalmologists and optometrists on the medical staff.

Podiatrists on the medical staff at Baylor Scott & White Health diagnose, evaluate and treat a wide range of conditions that affect the foot, ankle and lower leg. Genetic Counseling

The genetic counseling services at Baylor University Medical Center offer certified genetic counselors and physicians specializing in medical genetics to help assess an individual's likelihood of having an increased risk to develop certain types of cancer, heart disease or other conditions.

For appropriate patients, genetic counselors on staff at Baylor Scott & White will review personal and family medical information and construct and analyze a medical family tree (pedigree). They will calculate a risk assessment and perform specialized genetic testing when indicated. If a patient tests positive for a genetic mutation that could lead to disease, counselors discuss guidelines for continued monitoring and screening, prevention options, inheritance patterns, education about research opportunities and a report interpreting their test results.

Headache Center

The Comprehensive Headache Center provides diagnosis and treatment options for people who experience severe or recurring headaches. We offer many different avenues for treating headache conditions, including behavioral therapy, nerve blocks, as well as an Infusion Center for special IV medications.

Heart Transplant

The heart transplant program at Baylor University Medical Center is the top center in Texas for volume and one of the top ten in the country. ​Baylor Dallas was the first hospital in North Texas to use an artificial heart as a "bridge to transplant." Our team of cardiac specialists aggressively pursues ways to save lives, with a remarkable median wait time of eight ​days for status 1A heart transplant patients from the time they are listed to transplanted. We are a dual listing program to increase the patient's possibility of receiving a transplant.

Heart and Vascular

Heart and vascular services are offered to patients at both Baylor Dallas and Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – the first North Texas hospital dedicated solely to the care and treatment of heart and vascular patients. Lung Transplant

Memory Center

Baylor Neuroscience Center's AT&T Memory Center is an outpatient program located at 9101 N. Central Expressway in Dallas. The sole purpose of the center is to help the patient by evaluating their memory and determining if they have a memory disorder. There are many different causes of memory disorders, including vascular disease, Alzheimer’s disease, as well as others. The Pituitary Center at Baylor University Medical Center specializes in the incision-free surgical removal of tumors affecting the pituitary gland. Unlike traditional pituitary surgery, which typically involves an incision in the nasal cavity or face, the skilled team at the Pituitary Center is able to remove nearly all pituitary tumors – no matter the size or shape – through the nose using an endoscope. The Pituitary Center performs dozens of pituitary tumor removal procedures annually, delivering quality results with high patient satisfaction scores. Removing both functional and non-functional pituitary tumors with an endoscope rather than a traditional approach offers patients several benefits:

The Annette C. and Harold C. Simmons Transplant Institute at Baylor Dallas is a national leader in solid organ transplantation and, in partnership with the program at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth, is one of only three programs worldwide to have performed more than 4,000 adult liver transplants. Since the program’s inception in 1984, transplant surgeons on the medical staff have performed more than 11,000 transplants, including liver, kidney, pancreas, heart and lung, small bowel, and blood and marrow transplants. Through Baylor’s transplant research program, physicians participate in more than 120 transplantation research protocols. In fact, many of the medications used as standard therapy today are a result of research conducted at Baylor Dallas.

The Baylor Dallas Transplant Immunology Laboratory (TIL) is a full-service, 24/7 histocompatibility and transplant immunology lab accredited by the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics & College of American Pathologists in all clinical areas and all testing technologies. The TIL performs an extensive menu of high complexity testing to support solid-organ, tissue and hematopoietic cell transplantation related clinical decisions. The TIL uses and develops innovative technologies and was the first laboratory in the state of Texas accredited for next-generation sequencing for both HLA and KIR genotyping. It is also actively engaged in translational research and multicenter clinical trials that are supported by extramural funding.

Wound Care

The Comprehensive Wound Center at Baylor University Medical Center focuses on the evaluation and treatment of chronic wounds using advanced wound care technologies, as well as traditional medical and surgical therapies. We provide Inpatient and outpatient treatment. Our collaborative approach combines hyperbaric oxygen therapy, advanced technology and treatments to provide total care to patients with chronic wounds.

Specialists at Baylor Louise Gartner Center for Hyperbaric Medicine use oxygen therapy to treat hard-to-heal wounds associated with diabetes and diabetic neuropathy, soft-tissue damage from skin grafts, cancer radiation therapy and to help salvage limbs.
