Further diagnostic studies and procedures
We are pleased to have a breast surgery team adjacent to the Breast Center. These surgeons on the medical staff at Baylor Scott & White – Hillcrest can generally see a new patient within three days. Further diagnostic procedures we offer include:

  • Needle localization, a procedure used to help pinpoint and confirm the exact location of abnormal breast tissue just prior to surgeries such as biopsies and lumpectomies.
  • Sentinel node biopsy, a surgical procedure used to determine if cancer has spread beyond the tumor into your lymphatic system.

Our breast nurse navigator is by your side through every step of your journey
A specially trained breast nurse navigator is a critical member of the care team and is by the side of patients who undergo core biopsies and subsequent surgery.

Genetic Screening
Genetic screenings are now performed at Baylor Scott & White – Hillcrest for those who may appear to have increased risks, and if a faulty gene is discovered, patients are referred to a geneticist for further study. Every woman receiving a mammogram or breast exam is offered a screening questionnaire to help determine the likelihood of:

  1. Multiple family members with the same type of cancer
  2. Rare types of cancers in a family's history
  3. Young family members (under age of 50) who have had cancer
