Acute Care
A team of physical therapists (PT), occupational therapists (OT), and speech therapists (ST) provides early intervention for hospitalized patients who are identified as having difficulty with functional mobility, activities of daily living, and communication and cognitive deficits.
Physical therapy provides evaluation, examination, and treatment of neurological disorders, musculoskeletal conditions, cardiac patients, wounds, and other diagnosis. Physical therapy also provides recommendations for discharge placement assessment for the needs of assistive devices (durable equipment), and functional mobility. The wound care team is led by a certified wound care specialist (CWS).
Occupational therapy provides evaluation, examination, and treatment for activities of daily living (ADLs), adaptive equipment and durable medical equipment training, neuromuscular re-education, splint fabrication, sensory deficit compression techniques, cognitive retraining associated with ADLs and safety, and energy conservation techniques.
Speech therapy provides evaluation, diagnoses, and treatment of communicative, cognitive, and linguistic disorders. Modified barium swallow studies and bedside swallow evaluations are used to objectively asses swallowing function.
Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit
The rehabilitation department is an 18-bed unit, capable of accommodation bariatric patients, providing a minimum of three hours of multi-disciplinary treatment each day. The department is designed to increase patient independence and safety transition them back to the community discharge.
We offer a team approach, led by a physiatrist, which allows us to closely monitor the patient's progress to help maximize program effectiveness.
The treatment team evaluates the patient's abilities and then designs an individualized rehabilitation program to help each patient reach their goals in an efficient time and manner. Bi-weekly, the patient's progress is assessed in the areas of medical management, self-care skills, mobility skills, communication and cognition with a concentrated focus on discharge planning.
