Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lake Pointe has established the Outpatient Surgery Department to accommodate the need for new, short stay surgical procedures. These new procedures are designed to allow patients to undergo surgery, recover in a comfortably monitored environment and leave the hospital to return home, generally all on the same day.
Outpatient procedures are now frequently used for the most common surgeries such as:
- Ear, nose and throat
- Plastic surgery
- Hand surgery
- Oral and maxillofacial surgery
- Gynecological procedures.
Minimally invasive, laparoscopy techniques requiring few incisions are used in many of these procedures, like removal of the appendix and gallbladder, as well as ulcer surgery, hernia repair, and hysterectomies. Many of these procedures may also be performed using the
da Vinci Surgical System available at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lake Pointe.
