Emergency Department Helper

Department: Volunteer Services

Position summary: Assist staff with tasks and stocking supplies

Time commitment: 2 hour shift per week/1-2 times per week (Monday-Sunday)

Work environment: Emergency Department

Physical demands: Bending, sitting, standing, walking, pushing

Age requirement: Must be at least 18 years old

Qualifications:

Duties:

  • Assist with gathering and cleaning wheelchairs
  • Volunteers ARE NOT ALLOWED to answer a patient call light board
  • Volunteers ARE NOT ALLOWED to transport patients for discharge or procedures <.li>
  • Strip beds with unsoiled linens
  • Stocks ED supplies/Rooms
  • Other duties as requested by the Charge Nurse

Front Desk Volunteer - Day Surgery

Department: Volunteer Services

Position summary: Greet and check in surgery and endoscopy patients at the front desk

Time commitment: 4 hour shift per week (Monday-Friday 7:30am-11:30am, 11:30am-3:30pm)

Work environment: Day surgery front desk

Physical demands: Bending, sitting, standing, walking, pushing

Age requirement: Must be at least 18 years old

Qualifications:

  • Extroverted, mature, and positive
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Desire to work in an active, fast-paced team-oriented environment
  • Proactive and flexible

Duties:

  • Greet guests and assist staff with patient check in process
  • Assist in communications between OR, Day Surgery, Endoscopy, and Recovery Areas to the patient family members/visitors
  • Assist visitors in locating patient rooms or other areas of the hospital
  • Answer multi-line phone and place calls on hold as well as transfer calls within/outside of department
  • Escort patients to pre-procedure room
  • Volunteers ARE NOT ALLOWED to answer patient call lights
  • Volunteers ARE NOT ALLOWED to transport patients for discharge

Front Desk Volunteer- Hospital Round Rock

 

Department: Volunteer Services

Position summary: Greet and assist patients and guests

Time commitment: 4-5 hour shift per week

Work environment: Hospital Information & Access Services Front Desk, 1st floor

Physical demands: Bending, sitting, standing, walking

Age requirement: Must be at least 18 years old

 

Qualifications:

  • Extroverted, mature, and positive
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Desire to work in an active, fast-paced team-oriented environment
  • Proactive and flexible
  • Excellent computer skills

 

Duties:

  • Greet and input patients in CQUEUE who have an appointment in the hospital
  • Assist patients with appointment location via EPIC
  • Escort guests (when needed), providing necessary guidance and direction to appropriate areas in the hospital or clinic, restrooms, cafeteria, etc.
  • Provide patient room information according to HIPAA guidelines
  • Check floral deliveries to make sure patient is in hospital before florist leaves, take to the nurse's station floor where patient's room is if there is another volunteer or staff member to man the Front Desk
  • Direct food deliveries to side of counter at Front Desk for staff to pick up
  • Use wipes to wipe down Front Desk Hospital once during your shift.
  • Gather wheelchairs from Emergency Department, Day Surgery, or hospital floors to make sure we have at least 6 in the lobby entrance - clean wheelchairs by wiping down with wipes and wearing gloves

Gift Shop Volunteer

 

Department: Volunteer Services

Position summary: Assist customers and maintain gift shop functions

Time commitment: 4 hour shift per week (Monday-Friday 8:45AM-1:15pm, 1pm-5:30PM)

Work environment: Gift Shop, 1st floor

Physical demands: Bending, sitting, standing, walking, pushing

Age requirement: Must be at least 18 years old

 

Requirements:

  • Background check - completed through volunteer onboarding process
  • Health screening - completed through volunteer onboarding process

 

Qualifications:

  • Extroverted, mature, and positive individual
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work a cash register and assist with sales
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

 

Duties:

  • Greet customers in a friendly manner
  • Maintain cleanliness and assist with proper display in the store
  • Operate cash register
  • Help exchange merchandise for customers and accept returns
  • Assist with gift wrapping and bagging of merchandise
  • Fill snacks and keep stock full as needed
  • Assist with pricing and placement of merchandise
  • Take phone orders from customers and staff
  • Delivery of phone orders for patients
  • Knowledge of current sales and discounts
  • Assist with opening & closing of the gift shop

Med Surg/ICU Helper

 

Department: Volunteer Services

Position summary: Tasks for Med Surg/ICU

Time commitment: 2-4 hour shift, 1-3 times per week

Work environment: Med Surg/ICU

Physical demands: Bending, sitting, standing, walking, pushing

Age requirement: Must be at least 18 years old

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Desire to serve in an active, fast-paced team-oriented environment

Duties:

  • Clerical duties: laminating, scanning
  • Answer outside line desk phone
  • Volunteers ARE NOT ALLOWED to answer a patient call light board
  • Volunteers ARE NOT ALLOWED to transport patients for discharge or procedures
  • Help direct visitors
  • Wipe down tele box and chargers
  • Update UBR Board
  • Empty trash front nurses station
  • Wipe all counters and computers down at front nurses station
  • Med room stocked with supplies
  • All equipment in proper areas-stocked with appropriate wipes
  • Patient thank you cards
  • Make sure rooms have isolation PPE and wipes
  • Beds in bed holding, VS in alcoves, no boxes stored in areas, wipe warmer stocked

Radiology - Front Desk Helper

 

Department: Volunteer Services

Position summary: Greet patients and support Radiology Staff

Time commitment: 4-5 hours per week

Work environment: Hospital Radiology Department

Physical demands: Bending, sitting, standing, walking, pushing

Age requirement: Must be at least 18 years old

 

Duties:

  • Greetings to welcome patients and also as they leave (The front desk area is a first impression of our department and the last friendly face they see on the way out)
    • Extroverted, mature, and positive
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Proactive and flexible
  • Sanitize patient lobby seats/tables
  • Turn on lobby TV
  • Check on patients if they are waiting in the lobby for 10 minutes
    • Inform Techs
    • Get ETA
  • Answer front desk phone and transfer to specific extensions
    • Take messages to call back if needed
  • Walk patients to and from our adjacent clinic if needed (tech would let them know)
  • Get Department mail from inbox in mail room
  • Utilize Epic (limited access)
    • To view CT, Xray, Mammo, Ultrasound, MRI, and Fluoro schedule worklists for the day
      • Helps to determine which patients are here. If they are early, on time, late, or no show.
    • Use to verify Name, DOB, and MRN
    • Will not have access to patient's private and confidential information
  • Dispense and collect patient questionnaires
    • Sanitize clip boards and pens
  • Burn CD/DVD
    • Will only need to utilize Name, DOB, and/or MRN to enter into CD Burner Search
    • Will log each encounter in our CD Burner log book
    • No images or reports will be viewable - patient confidential information
    • Will need to have patient fill out release of information form and copy of ID
  • Laminate papers
  • Help monitor office supplies in cabinets - let Ramona know if running low and need to order

Women's Services Helper/Labor and Delivery

 

Department: Volunteer Services

Position summary: Assist staff

Time commitment: 2-4 hour shift once per week

Work environment: Women's Services - Labor and Delivery

Age requirement: Must be at least 18 years old

  • Clerical duties:
    • Filing and creating folders for incoming patients
    • Answering phones from outside line
    • Buzzing people in the door
  • Volunteers ARE NOT ALLOWED to transport patients for discharge
  • Volunteers ARE NOT ALLOWED to answer call lights
  • Checking dates on medical supplies
  • Stocking rooms
  • Wipe down and clean front nurses station counters and computers
