The mindfulness training program is an 8-week program for adults with a cancer history with a focus on supporting you with additional skills to manage cancer-related stress and other chronic stress. Mindfulness training has been researched with patients with cancer history and has a strong positive impact on important outcomes including quality of life, anxiety reduction and stress management.
The program is based on Mindfulness-Based Cancer Recovery (MBCR) which was developed by Linda Carlson and Michael Speca for individuals impacted by cancer. Mindfulness-Based Recovery is based on Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), an 8-week course developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn which was initially developed to help people suffering from illness/pain to reduce stress and improve their health and wellbeing
This is an 8-week course with weekly meetings. Classes are typically on Tuesdays from 5:00-6:30 PM.
