In the Baylor Scott & White Health Austin/Round Rock Region, our nurses are dedicated to living out our organization’s mission of extending excellent care to the community we serve. Nurses care for our patients in a variety of settings, both inpatient and ambulatory. We serve a wide geographic area, from Georgetown south to San Marcos, and from Taylor west to Lakeway.
 
The Austin/Round Rock region is on the ANCC Magnet Journey to Excellence. The following are some of the ways our nurses exemplify our commitment to consistent, compassionate, and excellent care.

Transformational Leadership

 
 
  • Developed regional float pool for RNs/LVNs and PCTs which covers both inpatient and ambulatory needs.
  • Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Round Rock received TJC certification for the Chest Pain Program
  • Nursing collaborated with a successful interdisciplinary opening of our newest inpatient/clinic facility—Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Pflugerville, including a successful Joint Commission survey.
  • Successful Joint Commission survey at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Taylor. As the region’s Critical Access hospital, Taylor ED saw and excess of 10,000 patients in FY 19, demonstrating an ongoing need for healthcare in this rural section of our region.
  • Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Round Rock achieved Level 1 Neonatal status by TX Dept. of Health Services, providing the Round Rock area with a higher level of neonatal/newborn care.
  • Regional Capacity Management Center implemented to help ensure safe passage of patients throughout the Austin/Round Rock Region.
  • Nurses cross train to other areas to aid in the pandemic response.

Exemplary Professional Practice

  • Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Round Rock and Lakeway achieved 2018 Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus for the collaborative care delivered to stroke patients. Lakeway also achieved the 2019 “Get with Guidelines, Gold Plus” level for stroke care.
  • Mobility Project conducted at Baylor Scott & White – Round Rock resulted in overall decreased fall rate.
  • Decrease in hospital readmissions for heart failure patients related to an ambulatory infusion clinic co-led by nursing.
  • Durable medical equipment closet at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Taylor to help with coordination of community care.
  • Early identification of sepsis decreases patient length of stay in Austin/Round Rock Region.
  • Relaxation rooms to decrease nurse stress and turnover.
  • Shared governance shows decrease in nurse turnover at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Lakeway.
  • Standing anticoagulation order sets allow nurses to practice at the top of their license and patients' access to timely care.

  • Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Pflugerville was awarded the True North Award for commitment to increasing nurse certification rate.
  • ERAS bundles decrease length of stay and improves patient outcomes.
  • Emergent dialysis process decreases readmissions. 2020 Bill Aston Quality Award.
  • Nurses volunteer for community outreach; Stop the Bleed training at local schools.

ASPIRE to Excellence: A mentoring academy for evidence-based practice – Presented by Christy Taylor MSN, RN, CEN at Sigma Theta Tau Creating Healthy Work Environment 2021 conference.

Surge Staffing Across Care Setting – Presented by Beverly Carrington, DNP, RN, NEA-BC at Sigma Theta Tau Creating Healthy Work Environment 2021 conference.

  • Baylor Scott & White – Pflugerville debuted its first robot which creates ICU capability and provides the city of Pflugerville access to a higher level of care.
  • Telehealth allows for a decrease in PPE usage during the pandemic, keeps families connected, and decreases community exposure.
