  • Support Groups

Jamie’s Place offers a six-week support group twice a year for families that have experienced the death of a loved one. Jamie’s Place was created in memory of Jamie Hilton, a 16-year-old active, outgoing, and outdoor-loving cowboy who passed away in October of 1994 following a 14-month battle with a brain tumor. Jamie and his family were cared for by Hillcrest Community Hospice. After his death, Jamie’s Place was built from his family’s desire to see grief support services for children made readily available in our community.

Research from JAG institute’s Childhood Bereavement Estimation Model (CBEM) indicates that 1 in 16 children in Texas will experience the death of a parent or sibling before graduating high school – and that number does not include those who experience the death of a grandparent, an aunt or uncle, or friend. Jamie’s Place continues to live out its mission to support grieving families by providing education, referrals, and support to those living in Central Texas.

Jamie’s Place is looking for volunteers who are passionate about supporting grieving families. Volunteer opportunities range from co-facilitate grief groups in schools and on Baylor Scott & White campus to helping advertise and raise awareness at community events. All volunteers must complete an application, background check and training session. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact us at
