Neuromuscular disorders cause your muscle to become weak and deteriorate

Neuromuscular disorders affect your neuromuscular system, which include your muscles, nerves and the coordination between muscles and nerves.

Many neuromuscular disorders are genetic or caused by gene mutation. Others are considered autoimmune diseases. In some cases, the cause is unknown.

Symptoms may include:

Spinal Musc​ular Atrophy
Spinal muscular atrophy is a genetic disease that affects the motor neurons in the spinal cord, resulting in muscle wasting and weakness.
Myasthenia Gravis
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a complex autoimmune disorder in which antibodies destroy neuromuscular connections. It most often affects adults but can sometimes affect children as well.​
Muscular Dystrophy
Muscular dystrophy (MD) is a broad term that describes a genetic (inherited) disorder of the muscles. Muscular dystrophy causes the muscles in the body to become very weak. The muscles break down and are replaced with fatty deposits over time.
