The nurses at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie worked together to deliver excellence in key areas of nursing.

  • Fully accredited by the Commission on Cancer for another three years, both Waxahachie and Duncanville Cancer Centers
  • American Heart Association and American Stroke Association Get with the Guidelines Stroke SILVER PLUS designation
  • Increased PCU capacity from 20 to 25 monitored beds
  • Opened Level II Special Care Nursery
  • Modified multidisciplinary rounds on units to include physicians, discharge board, and designated times with 90% compliance
  • Patient Satisfaction - FYTD22
    • HCAHPS composite score of 75 – 79th percentile, one of the top acute care hospitals
    • Emergency Department – Likelihood to Recommend 84.7 - 90th percentile, 2nd in the system for >60K visits
    • Ambulatory Surgery Center – Likelihood to Recommend 91.4 – 88th percentile
    • Women’s Patient Satisfaction – unit level HCAHPS composite score – 86.3 – 98th percentile
  • C-Diff free for 165 days – last one 1/4/22
  • CLABSI free for 296 days (ICU)
  • Zero Harm – 8 quarters without incidence of:
    • Falls with Injury - ICU, MBU, Simply Moms, Day Surgery, PACU, GI Lab
    • CAUTI free FY21 and FY22

  • Nurse volunteer team at Marvin Elementary Open House for the upcoming Marvin Biomedical Academy partnership between Waxahachie Independent School District and BSW Waxahachie
  • Patient Satisfaction – FY23 December YTD HCAHPS Composite of 76.1 – 89th Percentile exceeding goal of 74.4, one of the top acute care hospitals in BSWH
  • National Webinar presentation: Cathy Gibson, BSN, RN, CBN, Orthopedic Nurse Navigator/Program Coordinator,” and Paul Freudigman M.D. Orthopedic Surgeon, “Developing a Hospital Based Same-Day Discharge Program”
  • Received the Bill Aston Quality Award for two exemplary projects: Improving Same Day Discharges for Elective Joint Replacements and Reducing Chemotherapy/Infusion Treatment Delays
  • Reducing Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) FY23 YTD SIR 0.347 with a goal of 0.458 (6 of 15 possible events)
  • Staffing: Reduced the RN vacancy rate to 3.2%, eliminated agency to 1 RN, reduced premium pay incentives by 75% comparing July to December (decrease of $225,000), and decreased RN turnover to 9.9%
  • BSWMC – Waxahachie and Marvin Biomedical Elementary ongoing partnership –RNs created a lesson on the “Effects of the Sun and Skin Cancer Prevention” and presented to all grade levels during Health Science Week
  • Neonatal Designation Survey from the American Academy of Pediatrics - ZERO deficiencies and several best practices highlighted
  • Designated as a Hernia Surgery Center of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC)
  • Received accreditation under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP)
