Karla Carolina Acosta-Monroe, MD

Dr. Karla Acosta-Monroe is a board-certified family medicine and obesity medicine physician dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centered care. A proud “Nogalense,” she is a bilingual and bicultural Latina from Ambos Nogales, where her upbringing in a border community shaped her commitment to improving access to care.

Dr. Acosta-Monroe earned her degree in physiology from The University of Arizona and completed a Master of Public Health with a focus on community health in Pennsylvania. She attended medical school at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine, followed by residency training in San Antonio, TX. Her background in public health and medicine informs her holistic, evidence-based approach to care.


She practices family medicine, caring for pediatric, adult and geriatric patients. Her professional interests include obesity and lifestyle medicine, community health, and preventive care. Dr. Acosta-Monroe values strong patient relationships and works closely with individuals and families to develop personalized care plans that reflect cultural, environmental and lifestyle factors.

Outside of work, Dr. Acosta-Monroe enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter. She loves cooking—especially traditional Mexican dishes from Sonora—and finds creativity in the kitchen to be an important source of balance and wellness.
