Biography
Marcus McKenzie, MD joined Legacy Heart Center in 2006 from Georgetown University Hospital where he was Assistant Professor of Medicine responsible for inpatient consultation and cardiology services. Dr. McKenzie has an active interest in research trials and is currently serving as director of clinical research for Legacy Heart Center. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiovascular Disease. He has extensive experience in diagnostic imaging and holds a certification from the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology. He has special interests in acute coronary syndromes, cardiac critical care, diagnostic cardiac catheterization and transesophageal echocardiography. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Texas in 1993 and his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1998, where he was on the Dean's List from 1994-1997. He served his internship and residency in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins University Sinai Hospital, where he also served as Chief Resident in 2002. While at Johns Hopkins he served on the Sinai Hospital Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and the Clinical Competency Committee. He received his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Georgetown University's Washington Hospital Center, in 2005. He was the recipient of the Hury Cancer Scholarship at the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1994 and the Jack Wallace Prize in Cardiology from the University of Texas in 1997, and was named the Outstanding Junior and Senior Resident at John Hopkins University in 2000 and 2001. He was also the Sinai Hospital Resident Research Symposium Winner for a paper entitled Monitoring Platelet Inhibition with oral Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa Inhibitors: Are We Missing Something? Additionally, he has published several peer reviewed articles in Cardiology, BioDrugs, Thrombosis Research and the European Journal of Pharmacology. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians. He is fluent in both English and Spanish.
