ANCC Magnet® designation

The Magnet® Recognition Program designates organizations for nursing excellence and improved patient outcomes. In 2023, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lake Pointe achieved its initial Pathway to Excellence Designation. We are currently on the Magnet® Journey to Excellence and will submit the Magnet designation documents in February 2027. Our clinical nurses and leaders are committed to developing nursing excellence, fostering a healthy work environment, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and advancing nursing education.

Transformational leadership

  • Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lake Pointe is a freestanding, full-service hospital that serves a population of approximately 4.3 million people.
  • The president of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lake Pointe, Donas Cole, FACHE, is nationally honored for leadership and innovation.  
  • Chief Nursing Officer Amy Wilkins, DNP, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, is a DFW Great 100 Nurse Award recipient.
  • Nurses at every level are engaged in committees with hospital leaders.
  • Nurses at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lake Pointe are active in the Shared Governance and work closely together with Dr. Wilkins on improving the nursing practice environment across the organization.
  • Dr. Wilkins collaborated with nursing leaders and the team to implement a Nursing Healthy Work Environment program and disseminated these efforts at the Council of Texas Organization of Nurse Leaders (CTONL) conference.
  • Hospital leadership assists with community needs through participation in a local children's advocacy center, donations for meals for school children, and the local foodbank.
  • Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lake Pointe received Leapfrog’s highest safety grade, “A”, recognizing outstanding performance in patient safety and quality measures.
  • The Chief Nursing Officer, Dr. Wilkins, serves as the executive sponsor of the Baylor Scott & White Medical Lake Pointe Best Care Committee as a nursing leader for best practice and best outcomes. This team comprises interdisciplinary care team members from across the hospital and represents a wide range of healthcare specialties.
  • Nursing leaders, with guidance of Dr. Wilkins, have implemented a nurse sensitive indicator reduction strategy and developed a scorecard to focus on zero harm.  
  • Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lake Pointe has received designation by the State of Texas as a Level III Maternal Facility and Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Facility.
  • Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lake Pointe was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a 2026 High Performing Hospital in Heart Attack Care.
  • Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lake Pointe was recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a 2025 High-Performing Hospital in Maternity Care
  • Dr. Wilkins has oversight for multiple service lines, including critical care, surgery, cardiac, labor & delivery, neonatal & pediatrics, procedural, oncology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, rehabilitation, comprehensive care coordination, wound care, and observation patient units.
  • Leadership supported nursing and provider efforts in facilitating a breastfeeding support group and the Post-partum Hypertension Management Program, which is free to the public and designed to foster wellness, assist transition mothers’ home, while helping reduce maternal morbidity and mortality.
  • Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lake Pointe uses its revenue to improve the health of the communities in and near Lake Point through education and community service.
  • As part of the hospital’s commitment to the community, leadership facilitates a local blood drive and hosts the event at the facility auditorium, providing a convenient location for donors within the community to donate blood.
  • Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lake Pointe demonstrates commitment to community wellness through a walk-through and discussion between Rowlett High School and Rowlett Fire Department to evaluate emergency action plans at sporting events, and providing sports physicals to multiple high school students.
  • Under Dr. Wilkins' leadership, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lake Pointe established the Food Pack Project, a program for advancing the hospital's social food security goals, by providing food to patients to bridge the gap until they can connect with local assistance resources.

  • Texas Ten Step Program Designated Facility: Recognized for implementing the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding and supporting evidence-based breastfeeding practices.
  • Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lake Pointe nurses participate in advocacy and healthcare policy discussions: Amy Wilkins, DNP, MSN, RN, NEA-BC - Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce Legislative Day in Austin, TX, and Jim Sullivan, MSN, RN, CEN- Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) General Assembly, Louisiana.
  • Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lake Pointe received the Outpatient Orthopedic Surgery Excellence Award™ (2024)-FOR Superior clinical outcomes in knee and hip replacement, back and neck surgery, and rotator cuff surgery.
  • Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lake Pointe received the inaugural American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) certification- the only peer-reviewed accreditation recognizing facilities that meet national cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation standards.
  • Nurses are recognized by their peers and patients for the Caring Nurse Award.
  • DAISY Award Program Participation - Hospital participates in the international DAISY Award program honoring extraordinary nurses for clinical skill and compassion.
