The Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Baylor College of Medicine – Temple Cytopathology Fellowship is a one-year, ACGME-accredited program that offers advanced training in diagnostic clinical cytopathology.
Experience is provided through daily sign-out of gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens, as well as training in performance and interpretation of fine-needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies. Exposure to performance of ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration in our FNA clinics is also available.
We accept one fellow per year.
The fellow participates in all aspects of the service and is given progressive responsibilities. Participation in conferences and teaching of pathology residents and cytotechnologists is required. Involvement in clinical research is also encouraged. Diagnostic and research facilities are available in molecular biology, immunocytochemistry and flow cytometry.
Devoted time to specimen preparation, laboratory management and quality issues is provided. Continued exposure to surgical pathology with annual accession of 100,000 cases is through tumor board participation and elective rotation.
The cytology laboratory processes 44,000 GYN Pap tests, 4,800 non-GYN specimens and 4,900 fine-needle aspirations.
We use the standardized application for pathology fellowships developed by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Residents Forum.
Applicants should email the completed application form, curriculum vitae, personal statement, and letters of recommendation directly to the Program Administrator.
Our fellowship program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) Specialties Matching Service. Applicants must register with the NRMP and participate in the Match to be eligible for appointment. Fellowship positions are filled through the NRMP Match in accordance with NRMP policies and timelines.
