Mary Avena, AGNP

Mary Avena, APRN, AGPCNP-C, is a certified adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner, specializing in nephrology. Her professional interests include acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, end-stage renal disease on renal replacement therapy, hypertension, electrolyte imbalance, anemia of CKD, and secondary hyperparathyroidism.


Mary is passionate about helping her adult patients understand the “why” behind her interventions because she believes that understanding the rationale will ultimately help the patients arrive at the desired outcomes.

She is a proud member of the American Society of Nephrology and the Texas Nurse Practitioners.

Outside of work, Mary’s hobbies include crafting, card-making, cooking, baking, and walking the dogs.   She also enjoys the company of her husband and four children.
