Biography
Dr. Allyson McDonough is a board-certified physician, specializing in rheumatology, who is recognized for her ability to handle complex and rare rheumatologic diseases. Her professional interests include common inflammatory rheumatologic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, ankylosing spondylitis, vasculitis, scleroderma, Sjögren's and sarcoid. Dr. McDonough is passionate about incorporating integrative medicine into traditional rheumatologic practice and aiding her young adult patients in their transition from pediatric to adult rheumatologic care. She believes in an evidence-based approach that treats the whole person and integrates conventional and complimentary therapies. Dr. McDonough is a proud member of the American College of Rheumatology. Outside of work, she enjoys taking care of her three teenagers and two cats, as well as learning about the mind and body connection as it relates to health and well-being. Her other hobbies include gardening, hiking, yoga, caring for her sourdough starter and experimenting with anti-inflammatory foods and recipes. Dr. McDonough has been recognized as a Top Doc 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025 by Austin Monthly Magazine. Winners are nominated by their peers as among the best in their region/nation in their medical specialty. Dr. McDonough has been selected as a 2023 Super Doc by Texas Monthly magazine.
