Biography
Andrew J. Applewhite, MD, is the Medical Director at Baylor University Medical Center’s Comprehensive Wound Center in Dallas, TX, which is accredited with distinction by the UHMS and is a 24/7 facility with critical care capabilities. Dr. Applewhite received his MD from the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and completed his Family Medicine Residency at UTMB. He now devotes his full time-practice to wound care and hyperbaric medicine, and he has served as medical director for hyperbaric medicine and wound care centers since 2003. He is double board-certified in both Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine and Family Medicine. Dr. Applewhite is also the Immediate Past President of the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. In addition to his board certifications, Dr. Applewhite is a Certified Wound Specialist Physician, Fellow of the American Professional Wound Care Association, Fellow of Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine (FUHM) and a Fellow of the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine. He currently serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor (Affiliated) for the Texas A&M Medical School, where he teaches medical students and residents about hyperbaric medicine and wound care. Among other publications and poster presentations, Dr. Applewhite collaborated on a manuscript as an expert panel member entitled The Management of Diabetic Foot Ulcers through Optimal Offloading: Building Consensus Guidelines and Practical Recommendations to Improve Outcomes, published in the November/December 2014 issue of JAPMA (Journal of American Podiatric Medical Association). Dr. Applewhite is a national and international speaker and instructor on wound care and hyperbaric medicine and has served many leadership roles in the hospital and community — including the Medical Executive Committee for Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Baylor Specialty Hospital and Select Specialty Hospital. In addition, he is the founder of the “Aim to Heal” charity golf tournament, which raises money and awareness for diabetic foot ulcers. Andrew J.
