Biography
Dr. Shu is a board-certified neuromuscular medicine specialist who is passionate about helping patients diagnose, treat, and manage problems in muscles, nerves, or neuromuscular junctions. She specializes in Nerve Conduction/Electromyography, Muscle Biopsy, and Clinical Trials to help patients with common or under-recognized neuromuscular disorders. Some examples of her expertise include hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis neuropathy, different types of myopathy, myasthenia gravis, entrapment syndrome, nerve root disorders, etc. She is dedicated to patient education and frequently gives community talks. Among her numerous honors, Dr. Shu was selected to be Super Doctors® Rising StarsSM in Texas (2025 and 2024) and in Southern California (2023 and 2022). She received The Global Top Ten Outstanding Overseas Young Persons Award in 2021 for “Exceptional achievement, service, and contribution to society” from the Federation of Overseas Chinese Associations, Taiwan. She was recognized by multiple Mayors and City Councils in Los Angeles County for her “Dedication and commitment towards enhancing the quality of life for the community”. She received Healthcare Hugs from Our Community Award from UCLA Health C-ICARE in 2020 for “Commitment to excellence in a compassionate, collaborative, and professional environment of care for patients, families, and each other”. She was recognized for “Outstanding Teaching” in Medical Neurosciences I at David Geffen-UCLA School of Medicine. She is an Affiliate Clinical Associate Professor at Texas A&M College of Medicine. Dr. Shu has published peer-reviewed research in JAMA Neurology, Muscle & Nerve, Epileptic Disorders, Neuromuscular Disorders, Journal of Clinical Rheumatology, Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio journal), and Neurology. Outside of work, she appreciates exploring Mother Nature and having heartfelt conversations with people.
