Biography


Dr. Burnett is fellowship-trained and board-certified in neurological surgery.

Dr. Burnett was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. After finishing his undergraduate degree at Yale University, where he was a Fulbright ... Scholar and studied international healthcare policy, he completed his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1998. He then continued resident training in neurosurgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 2005. Following his residency, Dr. Burnett completed a fellowship in complex spinal surgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute.

His clinical interests include complex and minimally invasive spinal surgery, spinal sports medicine, neuro-trauma, neuro-oncology and peripheral nerve surgery. Conditions he commonly treats include spinal stenosis, herniated discs and brain/spinal tumors. As of 2018, Dr. Burnett is treating Parkinson’s disease and tremors with robot-assisted asleep deep brain stimulation (DBS).

He has been awarded two research grants from the National Institutes of Health for his work in neurophysiology and the development of non-invasive blood flow monitors to treat patients with brain and spinal injuries. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed manuscripts and multiple book chapters.

Dr. Burnett currently sees patients at our NeuroTexas locations in Austin-Eiger Road, Dripping Springs, Round Rock and San Marcos.

Dr. Burnett has been recognized as a Top Doc 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 by Austin Monthly Magazine. Winners are nominated by their peers as among the best in their region/nation in their medical specialty.
