Biography

Dr. Ahlers trained with the expectation of becoming a physician-scientist. As much as he enjoyed working in the lab, he discovered that he loved taking care of patients far more. At Baylor Scott & White, he works as a hematologist-oncologist with a special focus on leukemia, graft-vs-host disease, and other malignant hematologic disorders. Dr. Ahlers also cares for patients with non-cancerous blood disorders and solid tumors. Whether as a frequent provider for his patients with chronic hematologic disorders or as a one-time consultant for his patients who have blood abnormalities due to another problem, he endeavors to be a teacher, a coach, and an advocate for his patients.

Dr. Ahlers' areas of expertise include acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphoid leukemia, chronic leukemias, stem cell transplants, graft-vs-host Disease, CAR-T cellular therapy, lymphomas, plasma cell disorders (myeloma), benign hematology disorders and stroke prevention.
