Biography

Srilatha Kothandaraman, M.D. (Dr. Raman), is Co-Chief of Rheumatology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas and Managing Partner and practicing rheumatologist at Arthritis Centers of Texas. She is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University College of Medicine, where she serves as Rheumatology Elective Co-Director for the Dallas campus and as a Learning Communities Leader.


Dr. Kothandaraman earned her medical degree from Stanley Medical College in India. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, followed by fellowship training in Rheumatology at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. She also completed a Certificate of Study in Clinical Research through Drexel University College of Medicine.

During her rheumatology fellowship, Dr. Kothandaraman helped establish the Temple Lupus Cohort, a clinical research cohort designed to study lupus care and outcomes. Her research included the use of electronic health records to develop clinical lupus cohorts and evaluate quality of care in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

Since joining Arthritis Centers of Texas in 2015, Dr. Kothandaraman has developed a career combining clinical rheumatology, physician leadership, research, and medical education. Her scholarly interests include systemic lupus erythematosus, complex autoimmune disease, clinical case-based research, patient education, and innovative approaches to medical education.

Dr. Kothandaraman is particularly passionate about medical education and mentorship. At Texas A&M University College of Medicine, she participates in undergraduate medical education, curriculum development, and educational innovation. She is a fellow of the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators' Mentoring for Educational Excellence and Leadership (MEEL) program and has served on the Competency-Based Medical Education subcommittee of STRIKE (Steering Team to Renew and Innovate Knowledge and Education).
Her current educational research includes the NBME Pathways Grant-supported “STEMs Do Specialize! – The Oak Tree Project,” a collaborative initiative between Texas A&M University College of Medicine and a Dallas girls’ school. The project focuses on innovative approaches to medical education, mentorship, and early STEM engagement.

Her scholarly work includes publications and case reports in rheumatology, including a report of IgG4-related autoimmune pancreatitis as an initial presentation of systemic lupus erythematosus and a report on subcutaneous granuloma annulare mimicking rheumatoid nodules. She has also authored and co-authored educational articles, books, monographs, and a chapter on rheumatologic manifestations of gastrointestinal disease.

Dr. Kothandaraman is a Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology. She is board-certified in Rheumatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and certified in Internal Medicine by the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons.

She practices at the Dallas and Richardson locations of Arthritis Centers of Texas and welcomes new patients.
