Biography
Dr. Barrera received his medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Medical School. He completed his post-graduate training at the University of Colorado Health Science Center in Internal Medicine. He then completed his fellowship training in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at Baylor College of Medicine/MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology. He also has his endocrine certification for neck ultrasonography. He is a member of the Endocrine Society and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. Dr. Barrera is currently the section chief of the Endocrinology department at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Round Rock. Dr. Barrera practices general endocrinology, including diabetes, thyroid disorders, adrenal disorders, pituitary disorders, hypogonadism and osteoporosis. Dr. Barrera has been recognized as a Top Doc 2024, 2025, and 2026 by Austin Monthly Magazine. Winners are nominated by their peers as among the best in their region/nation in their medical speciality.
