Vijay Bapat, MD

Vijay Bapat, MD is joining the Digestive Diseases Group Plano as a board-certified gastroenterologist with advanced fellowship training in therapeutic endoscopy. In addition to the practice of general gastroenterology, he has a special interest in the diagnosis of pancreatic lesions, bile duct pathology, enteral stenting, Barrett's esophagus, and the resection of large colonic polyps. Dr. Bapat attended the 7-year BA/MD program at the Drexel University College of Medicine in collaboration with Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, where he received the Harris R. Clearfield Award for Excellence in Gastroenterology. He then moved to Dallas, where he completed internal medicine residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center and stayed on an additional year with administrative, academic, and clinical responsibilities as Chief Resident. He completed his clinical fellowship in general gastroenterology and hepatology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital before undergoing a rigorous year of additional training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Bapat is happy to be back in the Dallas area, and is looking forward to providing advanced minimally-invasive endoscopic therapeutic modalities for his patients.
