Pregnancy and Childbirth

Love Delivered Daily

When you’re having a baby, you want everything to be just perfect. And nobody understands that better than we do. The Women and Infants Center at Baylor Scott & White – McKinney provides advanced obstetrical services combined with a warm, caring and relaxing atmosphere. We are excited that you have chosen to have your baby here.

Baylor Scott & White – McKinney is home to the first Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Collin County. This means our NICU, which features private suites that allow parents to stay with their newborn around the clock, is capable of providing advanced life-support services and technologies for premature and seriously ill newborns.

Staffed by specialized nurses, neonatal nurse practitioners, neonatologists and many other skilled staff, the unit is designed to promote optimal developmental care for sick infants.

Family-centered care is our priority in the NICU. For your convenience and comfort, we offer:

  • Kangaroo care, or skin-to-skin contact
  • Lactation consultants
  • Sleeper sofas and showers
  • Family lounge
  • Comprehensive discharge planning and coordination

In addition to our advanced equipment to treat newborns, we have specialized educational materials and dedicated staff to help you understand your baby's unique health needs.

Labor and Delivery

Delivering Your Bundle of Joy

Our spacious, beautifully decorated labor and delivery suites allow for care to be brought to you and your baby. These suites allow your new family to remain together during the entire birthing process, creating a comfortable environment for a cherished experience.

You will labor, deliver and recover in a Labor and Delivery suite. Each suite is equipped with advanced technology while being beautifully decorated. These spacious suites allow for care to be brought to you and your baby, allowing your new family to remain together during the entire birthing process.

If your physician needs to deliver your baby by Cesarean birth (abdominal incision), the procedure will take place in an obstetrical operating suite within the labor and delivery area.

In most cases, your support person will be able to attend the birth and the baby will remain with you immediately after delivery.

New Family Center

The first few days after the birth of your baby are important. After nine months of carrying your child, you finally have the opportunity to cuddle and really get acquainted.

We have created the perfect space for you to do just that. The New Family Center includes amenities like beautiful private suites, tiled bathrooms – even a sleep area for your support person.

Everywhere you’ll see soothing colors and ambient lighting, designed to create a calming, relaxing environment – and thoughtful technological touches like flat screen TVs and a work area with wireless Internet.

Babies remain with their mothers in this family-centered unit, receiving their nursing care together. This promotes education and confidence building for new mothers, as well as communication between the nurse and mother.

Cuddle Time happens every day between 2-4 p.m. This is a time for mom and baby to rest and enjoy one another uninterrupted by hospital personnel and well intentioned visitors. We encourage you to tell friends and visitors to wait. Visiting hours will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Breastfeeding and Simply Mom's

Breastfeeding is recommended for the first year of your baby’s life. However, we know that although breastfeeding is a natural process, it is not always instinctive.

If you choose to breastfeed, lactation consultants are available to help you with a successful breastfeeding experience. The New Family Center nurses have received special training in the latest breastfeeding techniques and are available to assist you.

Simply Mom’s is a mom and baby specialty boutique at Baylor Scott & White – McKinney designed to provide new mothers convenient access to breastfeeding supplies, infant designer clothing, preemie clothing and gifts.

Lactation consultants are available to allow new parents to ask questions while they are shopping. You may also contact Simply Mom’s if you have additional questions after you return home. The store is located on the second floor in the lobby area of the Women and Infants Center and can be reached at 469.764.6262.
