Dr. O’Brien is a native Texan and orthopedic surgeon who is fellowship trained in Sports Medicine. He is from west Texas and trained at some of the top institutions across the country. During his specialty training which focused on arthroscopic (minimally invasive) surgery, he worked with all levels of athletes including the Houston Texans, Rockets, Astros, Dynamo, and the University of Houston Athletics.
Although he has expertise in sports medicine, he also focuses on general orthopedics including acute or chronic knee, shoulder and hip problems, fracture care, and pediatric injuries. While he has cared for athletes of the highest level, he receives the same satisfaction in caring for the weekend warrior.
Dr. O’Brien also offers platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections for a variety of conditions to accelerate healing in a specific area. Known for their clotting abilities, platelets also contain growth factors that can trigger cell reproduction and stimulate tissue regeneration or healing in the treated area.
Procedures Dr. O’Brien provides include but are not limited to total knee replacement, arthroscopic knee surgery, ligament repair, ankle fracture repair, ruptured bicep/tricep repair, quadriceps/hamstring repair, arthroscopic shoulder surgery, and arthroscopic hip replacement.
Outside of the OR, he enjoys spending time with his wife, three children and Labrador. They love outdoor activities and attending Baylor sporting events. Dr. O’Brien especially enjoys hiking, fly fishing and skiing.
He is also proud to serve as team physician for athletes at Manor High School.
