Laryngology

Laryngology is a medical specialty that diagnoses and treats issues with the larynx, or voice box.  The larynx is where your vocal cords are located to help you swallow, make sounds, and speak.  Since it is located at the entrance to the windpipe, it also plays an important role in breathing.

Laryngologists treat a range of diseases and conditions including:

• Vocal cord injuries like overuse or misusing your voice
• Noncancerous (benign) growths on vocal cords 
• Precancerous or cancerous growths
• Autoimmune diseases that affect speaking/breathing
