Joel Wells, MD, MPH, FAAOS

Joel Wells, MD, MPH, FAAOS, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing exclusively in hip preservation surgery, hip replacement and complex hip reconstruction. He sees patients in McKinney, Texas, and serves as Medical Director of the Comprehensive Hip Center Program at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – McKinney.


Dr. Wells provides advanced treatment for a wide range of hip conditions, including hip dysplasia, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), labral tears, hip arthritis, Perthes disease and complex hip deformities. His surgical expertise includes periacetabular osteotomy (PAO), hip arthroscopy, open hip preservation surgery, hip sports medicine procedures, anterior total hip replacement, hip resurfacing and complex hip reconstruction. He is committed to helping adolescents and adults reduce pain, restore mobility and return to the activities they enjoy.

A native Texan, Dr. Wells grew up in Abilene, where he was valedictorian of Abilene Cooper High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Abilene Christian University, where he was a four-year baseball letterman and was drafted by the New York Mets before choosing a career in medicine. Known for his personalized approach to care, Dr. Wells is deeply dedicated to his patients and strives to deliver exceptional outcomes through compassion, communication and innovation.
