The Baylor Scott & White PGY2 Specialty Pharmacy Residency provides advanced training in the health system specialty pharmacy setting providing pharmacists with the clinical and administrative skills necessary to provide outcomes-driven, high quality, innovative patient care while achieving and maintaining specialty pharmacy accreditation standards and advancing the profession
Specialty pharmacy focuses on providing supportive services to patients who are on high-risk prescription medications used to treat complex medical conditions. These medications and conditions often require special handling or have special directions for administration, such as self-injection.
Upon graduation, the resident is prepared for managerial or leadership roles in clinical and operational areas of the specialty pharmacy setting, as well as to obtain board certifications and other specialty-related professional designations.
This PGY2 Residency began in 2021 and is accredited by American Society of Health-System Pharmacists® (ASHP)

About the program
In order to build a fundamental understanding of our patient care services and department structure, the resident will be trained on all pharmacist staff duties and work closely with the pharmacy technicians and nurses during the orientation period. Once familiarized with all clinical and operational duties, the resident will assume more leadership responsibilities as an integral member of the specialty pharmacy administrative team.
This residency is a hybrid remote/onsite experience, mirroring the current work environment for the current specialty pharmacy administrative team. Residents will have dedicated office space at one of our Central Texas facilities (Round Rock or Temple), and will spend time onsite in addition to working virtually to complete some learning experience requirements.
All learning experiences are designed to meet ASHP requirements and the current needs of the specialty pharmacy. Examples include:
- Specialty Pharmacy Practice
- Data Analytics and Quality
- Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation Management
- Specialty Pharmacy Facilities Management
- Clinical Specialty Administration and Management
- Finance
- Longitudinal Human Resources, Leadership and Research experiences
- Managed Care, Academia and other unique electives
- Advanced leadership and project management
- Academia, education and preceptorship opportunities
Additional learning experiences can be adjusted to meet the resident’s interests and career goals.
