Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Temple Emergency Medicine Residency Program located in Temple, Texas is committed to advancing and promoting a training environment emphasizing outreach, advocacy for equitable outcomes in healthcare, and building dynamic teams that serve our communities. We strive to uphold a mutually supportive environment for all trainees, faculty, staff, and the patients we care for.

Established in 2021, the goal of the scholarship was to encourage applicants with an interest in serving our unique community and alleviate some of the financial hardship a student might face while on an away rotation.

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Temple Emergency Medicine Residency Program will offer two scholarship recipients for 2025 visiting students. Scholarship recipients will be reimbursed up to $2,000 for travel, housing, and other living expenses while completing a 4-week emergency medicine clerkship at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center - Temple.

  • Applicants will receive guidance and mentorship from our outstanding faculty to help the applicant shine during their clerkship.
  • Applicants will rotate in our busy tertiary care Level 1 trauma center and help in care of our complex patient population.

Our EM Residency has a wide variety of expertise in Administration, Critical Care, EMS, Disaster Medicine, Toxicology, Ultrasound, Medical Education, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Research, and Simulation.

Who should apply

Full time fourth year medical students or a third-year medical student who has completed all required core clinical clerkships. Students entering the current year's match that are rom LCME or AOA accredited medical schools within the United States and Puerto Rico but whose home institution is outside of Temple, Texas are welcome to apply. Students must first submit a rotation application through the Association of American Medical Colleges' (AAMC) Visiting Student Leaming Opportunities (VSLO) website. Senior students from Baylor College of Medicine that are not assigned to Temple as their home campus may apply after they have been scheduled to a visiting elective. Students must be in good academic standing at an accredited medical school within the United States.

Institutional overview

Scott & White Medical Center (Temple) Emergency Medicine Residency Program was established in 1992. We are a Level I Trauma, tertiary referral center combined with McLane's Children's Hospital ED which is designated as Level 2 Trauma. We serve an annual census of approximately 80,000 patients per year at our main site. Additionally, Mclane's Children's hospital serves approximately 39,000 patients per year.
