Dr. Goran B. Klintmalm is an internationally-recognized pioneer in liver transplantation and an authority in kidney transplantation, immunosuppression, and organ preservation. Dr. Klintmalm performed the first liver transplant in Texas at Baylor University Medical Center over 30 years ago. He has developed one of the largest and most reputable transplant programs in the world. Under Dr. Klintmalm's direction, more than 8000 solid organ transplants have been performed at Baylor including liver, living liver donor, kidney, kidney/pancreas, living kidney donor and heart and lung transplants. Baylor is one of only 3 liver transplant programs in the US that have performed more than 4,000 transplants. Dr. Klintmalm has served as President of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and on more than 25 national medical committees. He is a principal investigator of innumerable national and international research projects. In addition, Dr. Klintmalm has been appointed Associated Editor of the American Journal of Transplantation and to 12 editorial boards. He is the author or co-author of more than 600 publications in transplantation. Dr. Klintmalm is the co-editor of the principal textbook in liver transplantation and has published 4 other textbooks, written 33 textbook chapters, 450+ peer reviewed publications, and 85+ non-peer reviewed publications. Dr. Klintmalm has been a transplant surgeon since 1978. A recognized leader in the field of transplantation for over 30 years, Dr. Klintmalm is currently the principal investigator for 21 major studies and sub-investigator for 10, 7 of which are sponsored by the National Institute of Health.
