A knee revision is a surgical procedure to replace part or all of a knee replacement that has failed. The surgery is performed when a knee replacement no longer functions properly due to reasons that may include wear and tear, infection, dislocation and complex fractures.
Your surgeon will carefully inspect your existing knee replacement and the soft tissues around it, looking for any sign of infection or loose parts and seeing if the prosthetic joint may have broken. They will then remove all or part of the implant currently in your knee and replace it with a specialized revision implant.
Complex knee revision has a high success rate, bringing pain relief, improved stability and function, increased mobility and a better quality of life.
