​​​​ Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs

Baylor Scott & White Health provides a variety of diabetes education programs. Our self-management education programs are recognized by the American Diabetes Association and cover topics that are key to living successfully with diabetes.

Programs vary by location, but may include:

  • Type 2 Diabetes: This program is held in a group class setting and covers topics to help you manage your diabetes.
  • Type 1 Diabetes Program: This one-on-one program is designed to meet each individual's educational needs.
  • Diabetes During Pregnancy Program: This program is developed expressly to serve the needs of the woman whose pregnancy has been complicated with diabetes.
  • Insulin Pump Program: Comprehensive assessment, education and support for individuals choosing to use an insulin pump.
  • Insulin Initiation Program: Assessment, education and support for individuals who are starting on insulin or another injectable anti-diabetes medication.
  • Pre-Diabetes Program: A small group class or 1:1 instruction that focuses on reducing the risk of progression to Type 2 diabetes.
  • Medical Nutrition Therapy: This program offers a comprehensive diet assessment with a registered dietitian and meal planning education.

Diabetes Support

Support for Diabetes Patients and Families

This support network for adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes provides a time and a place for people coping with diabetes to give and receive support in dealing with a condition that can be demanding and challenging. Through group discussion and lectures from specialists, you can share your experiences, gain support and understanding and improve your diabetes self-care.

Topics often include:

  • Setting realistic goals
  • Coping with your body frame, food and exercise
  • Decreasing anxiety about complications
  • Reducing fears of low blood glucose
  • Staying on track during times of stress
