Our team of cardiologists, surgeons, interventio​nal radiologist and other healthcare professionals work together to provide advanced care for heart and vascular conditions.

A Higher Standard of Care

As part of the Scott & White Heart and Vascular Institute, the Baylor Scott & White Heart Center in Temple achieved the highest level in Chest Pain Center from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. The accreditation recognizes the hospital's expertise in providing quality care to patients who arrive with symptoms of a heart attack. The national standard of care for heart attack patients is a door-to-balloon time of 90 minutes. This refers to the time a patient arrives at the emergency department to intervention in the catheterization lab. The Baylor Scott & White Heart Center in Temple currently averages significantly lower than national guidelines.

Specialized Services

Advanced Heart Failure Clinic: The Baylor Scott & White Heart Center in Temple has a team dedicated to the treatment of heart failure. The team also provides the medical support for Scott & White's heart transplant program. The goals of this program are to improve patients’ symptoms to the best level possible, prevent future acute events of congestive heart failure and avoid repeat admissions to the hospital and emergency department.

CardioMEMS Heart Failure Monitoring System: The first and only FDA-approved heart failure monitoring device proven to significantly reduce hospital admissions. Baylor Scott & White – Temple is the first hospital in the area to implant this new device.

Noninvasive Diagnostic Testing:

  • 64-slice CT angiography
  • Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • Positron Emission Tomography (PET Imaging)
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG)
  • Holter and event monitoring for rhythm disturbances
  • Echocardiography laboratory: The laboratory is accredited in Adult Transthoracic, Adult Stress and Adult Transesophageal Echocardiography by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL).
    • Transthoracic echocardiogram (2-D and 3-D imaging, TTE)
    • Transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE)
    • Exercise stress echocardiogram
    • Dobutamine stress echocardiogram
  • Myocardial perfusion imaging at rest and stress

Invasive Diagnostic Testing:

  • Cardiac catheterization (to measure blood pressures within the heart)
  • Coronary angiography (X-ray pictures of the heart arteries)
  • Left and right ventriculography (X-ray pictures of the main pumping chambers)
  • Heart biopsy
  • Pericardiocentesis (removing fluid from the sac around the heart)

Coronary and Peripheral Vascular Intervention: For many patients with severe aortic stenosis—a condition where the aortic valve does not fully open or is narrowed often due to a build-up of calcium—open heart surgery has been the only option.  However, some patients are not candidates for surgery and face living with a potentially fatal condition. Baylor Scott & White – Temple offers TAVR, a less invasive technology that allows the physician to place a new aortic valve in the patient’s heart while it is still beating.
