Lung Care

Diagnosing Lung Cancer with Technology

Sometimes, doctors know there’s a problem with the lymph nodes near the lungs. But figuring out the cause often required surgery. Now, with new technology called endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS), doctors can better access and biopsy these lymph nodes.

The technology helps doctors diagnose lung cancer and other conditions that are affecting the nodes, and be better equipped to put together a treatment plan.
Here’s how it works. While patients are under anesthesia or conscious sedation, doctors use EBUS technology to locate the lymph nodes, and then access them via a scope inserted through the windpipe.

The technology allows doctors to view and biopsy lymph nodes that were previously either inaccessible or could be reached only with surgery.
Having the technology available in Plano eliminates the need for surgery as a first-line approach.
