When life changes, your benefits can too.

Important life events often come with new priorities. A qualifying life event (QLE) gives you the opportunity to update your benefits outside of Annual Enrollment so your coverage continues to meet your needs.

Be sure to take action within 31 days of the qualifying life event.  After that deadline, you'll need to wait until the next Annual Enrollment period to make changes unless another qualifying life event occurs.

What is a qualifying life event (QLE)?

A QLE is a change in your personal, family or employment status that affects your benefits needs or eligibility. When a qualifying life event occurs, you're able to make changes to your benefits outside of Annual Enrollment.

Common qualifying life events include:

  • Marriage, divorce or legal separation
  • Birth, adoption or placement of a child
  • Death of a spouse, dependent or beneficiary
  • Gain or loss of other health coverage for you, your spouse or an eligible dependent
  • A change in employment status that affects benefits eligibility

Time-sensitive:

Benefit changes related to a qualifying life event must be submitted within 31 days of the event.
