​​​Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Irving is the premier medical facility providing care to Irving, Las Colinas, Coppell, Grand Prairie and the surrounding communities. The not-for-profit, full-service, fully-accredited hospital offers advanced health care services in heart and vascular care, diagnostic imaging, digestive disorders, physical medicine and rehabilitation, cancer care prevention, diagnosis and treatment, orthopedic surgery, and emergency medicine. The 296-bed hospital is centrally located in the heart of the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex on State Highway 183. Baylor Scott & White – Irving is accredited by The Joint Commission. The medical center celebrated 50 years of service in November 2014.

2014 marks 50 years of caring for Irving, Coppell, Grand Prairie and the surrounding communities. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Irving has a rich history which began with its founding as Irving Community Hospital in 1964. Baylor Scott & White – Irving continues to abide by its mission to provide exemplary health care, education, research and community service for the citizens it serves.

“The job of ‘building’ a dream into reality was completed by the Irving Hospital Board on a brilliantly sunny, Sunday afternoon. Th​e $3 million hospital was formally dedicated before a crowd of 1,200.”

Baylor Scott & White – Irving​ Timeline

1959
Led by President Clint Howard, the Irving Hospital Authority is established by the City of Irving and develops a plan to construct and finance a local hospital in Irving.

1960
Business leaders, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Carpenter and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Williams donate 10 acres of land in Irving to build the hospital.

1962
Irving Community Hospital breaks ground on Oct. 15 in front of an audience of 700 community residents.

1964
Irving Community Hospital welcomed their first patient on November 8.

1971
The hospital expands from a 100-bed hospital to 200 beds, including new mom and baby unit, nursery and surgical unit.

1978
The hospital expands from a 100-bed hospital to 200 beds, including new mom and baby unit, nursery and surgical unit.

1984
The hospital expands and enhances hospital services including, surgery, pathology, physical medicine, radiology, laboratory, critical care units, outpatient center and a medical/surgical unit.

1986
Irving Heart Institute and Irving Women’s Imaging Center opens on the hospital campus.

1988
Irving Community Hospital becomes Irving Healthcare System.
The Irving Hospital becomes “Dallas Memorial Hospital” for a day as CBS Television show “DALLAS” films on the hospital campus.

1991
Expansion began for the Irving Cancer Center, Medical Office Building I and Outpatient Surgery Center.

1995
Expansion began for the Irving Cancer Center, Medical Office Building I and Outpatient Surgery Center.

1999
Surgical hospital Baylor Health Center at Irving-Coppell, located in North Irving, joins the Baylor Irving family.

2004
IHF raises a record $4.3 million for the renovation of the Women’s Pavillion of Health, addition of a Coronary Care Unit and an expanded heart monitoring unit.

2013
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Irving earns the coveted Magnet® Designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Baylor Scott & White – Irving nursing staff ranks in the top 7 percent in the country.

2015
Baylor Scott & White – Irving completed a $25 million expansion and renovation of the emergency department and surrounding hospital departments

Baylor Scott & White – Irving has grown to a 296-bed, full-service, fully accredited and nationally recognized hospital serving the communities of Irving, Coppell and Grand Prairie. Advanced services include:

Magnet Designation for Nursing Excellence

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Irving has received Magnet® designation for excellence in nursing services by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®. Magnet status is one of the highest levels of recognition a hospital can achieve. For patients, this designation means that their care is provided by a nursing staff that ranks in the top seven percent of hospitals in the country.

Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Irving earned Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers from The Joint Commission. Its accreditation is a nationwide seal of approval that indicates a hospital meets high performance standards.

Commission on Cancer Accreditation

Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center at Irving is an accredited comprehensive cancer program by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers

Cycle 4 Chest Pain Center Accreditation

Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Award of Excellence

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Irving received a Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Award of Excellence from TMF Health Quality Institute (TMF), the Medicare quality improvement organization for Texas. The award recognizes hospitals that have improved their initial baseline performance on specific national quality measures related to acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, and pneumonia.
